October 3 & 4, 2015

We are super excited to welcome Karla Alexander to Sugar Pine for a Two Day Workshop on Curved Piecing Saturday October 3rd and Sunday October 4th. Karla has written 8 books on the art to quilt making. Her techniques reflect the ever changing world of quilts and quilting.

Explore curved piecing with Karla through a variety of spontaneous piecing and cutting techniques. Create your own one of a kind quilt blocks. Build fast fun blocks. Gain new freedom in fabric selection.

See below for Karla's description of the quilts she will be teaching.
Also, please visit Karla's website for more information on her books, patterns and techniques.

Red Onion - is also fun for beginners to advanced as it has multiple design options as you go as well an many layout possibilities. Different fabrics can be added in as you go, it is easy to enlarge or even make the blocks larger or smaller. My ruler Circle Savvy is a great tool for cutting the circles, however I did free-form cut the shapes when I first made the quilt.

Giant Rail -  is great for beginners - you begin with fat quarters, each one is equivalent to one finished block. A great quilt to learn curves on - is a lot of fun with awesome results. This quilt can be cut “free-form” or can be made using my ruler Split Seconds, either way works.

Argyle - is a bit more advanced, works great with my ruler, curves for rectangles. I always have great results with this quilt, students love it!

Round About - a bit more advanced due to all the different sizes. However IF a quilter wanted to work with circles rather than ovals, it would be less complex. It’s a great quilt to work on to understand the math behind curves!
